thanks for stopping by
My name is Vanja (Vanya) Markovic and I’m a documentary style wedding photographer and visual storyteller based out of beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, California.
With photography and my special power #freezingtime, I enjoy capturing true emotion, authenticity and the moments that go unnoticed… the most magical ones! My intention is to document your love story & wedding day in the most honest, genuine and natural way. I want you to relive this special occasion (and feel the butterflies!) every time you see your wedding album and photos around your home. My artistic style is a mix of black & white and color, natural light (whenever possible), relaxed and not too posed (except for the couple/family portraits).
Photography is my passion and #neverstoplearning is the motto, so I’m mentoring with and assisting some of the best wedding photographers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. I choose to invest time, money and energy into evolving & growing as a photographer through mentorships, workshops, conferences, books… and in turn giving you, my couples, the photography experience you deserve.
My definition of freedom is exploring our beautiful earth and its inhabitants :) In 2018 I spent eight months backpacking SE Asia and Europe and if there is one takeaway, it’s that we are all one. We all have our ways, but on a deep level we’re all the same. In SE Asia they say SAME SAME but DIFFERENT. Exactly! From US, Bali, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, India, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, UK, Holland, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii to my home countries Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, I enjoyed every minute. And I loved the beautiful people everywhere! Tasting this kind of freedom gave me a new perspective on life and the urge to go further. To be continued…
When I started my photography business, I knew that giving back would play a big role in how I run it. Being a Bosnian war refugee in need of food, shelter, clothing, etc. in the 1990s taught me many things, including the importance of giving. Without the assistance of humanitarian organizations I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thankful is an understatement and as soon as I was able to give back, I started donating to various causes. I’ve decided to donate 10% of all my photography profits and chose the World Food Programme for our (it’s as much your donation, as it is mine!) 2019 donations. Even if we don’t end up working together, please consider donating to the cause directly.
“Assisting 91.4 million people in around 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.”
If this speaks to you, get in touch and let’s make sure we’re a good fit. We can grab coffee (or a drink!), chat (in person or virtually) and go from there. I truly love what I do and believe that if we’re meant to meet, we will meet :)
